How many kinds of nutrients are there and how much do we need to consume per day?

How many kinds of nutrients are there and how much do we need to consume per day?

Today, out of nowhere, I asked myself this question. And surprisingly, as I always thought myself as a health freak, I do not know the answer. So I decided to search the web for some answers, and surprisingly again, it wasn’t easy to find an answer…..

The answers that I found were mostly general or with partial details. And some sites were just trying to sell something. Examples: Some site states that there are 6 essential nutrients which is protein, fat, vitamin, carbohydrate, mineral and water, then, period. And some others show either the list of all the vitamins, or the list of all the minerals. And some sites state that if you take their Acai and Maqui Berry pills you will live till 100 years old. It seems like the most objective and comprehensive site is still Wiki.

And what about supplements like Coq-10, Melatonin, Prebiotics or Probiotics? What is their classification? I think Coq-10 is an enzyme, but what about the others? I am sure that there are many other products with funny names that are sold in public health stores like GNC and Holland & Barrett.

So after spending a few hours reading and searching, I decided that I can be better than Wiki. I will try to place the list of all the 6 essential nutrients, with break down and it’s RDA.

But just in a few minutes, I realized that this is not going to be easy….but I will still try anyway.

It will probably take a few weeks…..
